Ladies In Blue Scar - Lalela Scarf

This spectacular artwork was created by Shekinah, who attended our programs in Maboneng Gauteng. Shekinah recently graduated from high school and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing Management in the hopes of one day owning his own digital marketing firm. Shekinah says that his life mission is, "to grow into someone who inspires, encourages, and positively impacts the lives of every person [he] meets." We are certainly inspired by all that Shekinah has broughto our Lalela community and can't wait to see what lies ahead for him.

Together, the students explored their own heritage while learning more about the different cultures of their classmates and friends. After sharing their traditions, rituals, beliefs and cultural practices with each other, they drew a person in clothing and accessories that represent their culture. The artists then cut their drawings into sections and exchanged them with one another. They used the different sections to construct a new person, made up of a mixture of cultures. During this process, the artists recognized that even though we belong to different cultures, we are all part of the same human race.
